Family Reunion Activities: Let’s Get Physical
Another great way to get your family members up and moving around and interacting with one another is to make a number of different sports available. Obviously, if you are having the family reunion in the ballroom of a hotel, the number of sports you can offer will be limited. If you are holding it in someone’s backyard or at a park, however, you can select from a number of different sports to play.
Since you will have so many people attending your family reunion, it really opens up the different types of sports that you can offer to your guests. Baseball is one great sport that takes several people to play – and you will have the perfect opportunity when you have a family reunion.
Even if you don’t have a formal baseball diamond to use at the park or in the backyard, you can easily create one. Frisbees are great for making bases that are flat. But, if you want bases that won’t move about, fill a coffee can or an empty milk jug with water and use those as your bases.
Volleyball is also a great activity to have available at your family reunion. You can purchase volleyball nets for less than $20 at most stores. They may not be of the highest quality, but they will be good enough to get you through your family reunion. You might want to consider buying a volleyball/badminton kit, as this will provide you with more gaming options. And, I know from personal experience, that kids love hitting those little birdies back and forth across the net. So, this is a surefire way to keep the kids entertained.
Basketball is another great option, as is kickball, or even an organized game of tag for the kids. Try to bring as much equipment as you can for the gaming events, but be sure to also mention it in the invitations. That way, your relatives can come prepared to play if they like.
Of course, even if you have all of these gaming opportunities available, your relatives may not feel comfortable with taking the bull by the horn and getting started with the games. Therefore, you may need to organize some games to get them started or at least do a little prodding to get them up and off their feet and having a great time together.
