Part 15:

Slowing Down the Pace with a Deck of Cards

Every family has those members that are too old or are physically incapable of joining in with all of the physical activities you have planned for your family reunion. In addition, some people simply aren’t interested in that kind of fun. Therefore, you need to think of some non-physical ways to keep your family members entertained.

One cheap and simple way to accomplish this is to purchase a deck of cards or two. Cards can be a fun way to spend time with one another and is also very conducive to talking and to sharing with one another. After all, what else could your family members do while sitting around a table together? There is nothing to do BUT talk while playing cards and, for some reason, keeping your hands busy while playing cards seems to somehow make it even easier to share with one another.

More than likely, you will have at least one member of the family that knows how to play a dozen different card games. Nonetheless, it would be a good idea for you to brush up on the rules of a few different games that you can teach to your family members if they don’t know how to play. You might even want to consider purchasing a book that shows how to play different card games and bringing that with the deck of cards to the reunion.

Of course, cards don’t have to be used just for playing card games. Your Great Uncle Sal probably has a few card games up his sleeve (bad pun intended). So, encourage him to show off some of his tricks. Even if they are absolutely terrible, the kids will be amazed – and it will be a great way for your Great Uncle Sal to bond with the younger generation.
